Unusual Hairdressers in London

Pimps & Pin Ups

For something completely out of the ordinary, head over to Spitalfields for some truely glamorous 1950’s rockabilly style pampering. Looking like a cross between back stage at a west end show and a tattoo parlour convention, the well designed warehouse style space looks fantastic and makes what is normally a simple trip to the hairdressers well worth the £40 price tag. With salons in London and New York only, why head to the other side of the continent when you can get star treatment in good old London town? With raving reviews and a refreshing rock & roll attitude, this salon is well worth the visit even just to to gawp in at the window before plucking up the courage to head in.

I used to work up the road from this little gem of an independent hairdressers. Set in Camden Town’s Parkway just up the road from the more commercial Rush hairdressers, this unpretentious salon features original barber chairs and a refreshingly British feel. For only £30 a cut, it’s small but perfectly formed, with friendly staff and a real attention to detail.

Urban Haircutters

Any hairdresser that has the balls to hang a row of frilly knickers up as their window display have my vote. A great vintage style find, Urban Haircutters may not have the most unique of names bu the shop speaks for itself. Situated on the otherside of Spitalfields to Pimps & Pinups, for £40 a cut, it’s may sound dear for any customers who aren’t used to London prices, but it is worth the price tag, especially if it means you can avoid Toni & Guy and start supporting the local chaps. A beautiful shop that looks a little like an eclectic doll’s house, the staff are friendly and the service is great.

Taylor Taylor

If you are looking for that more upmarket side to hairdressing, then look no further than Taylor Taylor. With prices ranging from £49 for a Top Stylist to a whopping £85 for a cut from the Company Director, prepare to splash the cash and blow your budget here. However, with recommendations from the likes of Vogue and Tatler, the two salons situated at Commercial Street and Cheshire Street are stunning and definitely designed with luxury in mind. Offering other treatments such as a Medi Spa and pampering, this is definitely the place to go for a treat.
